Inclusive Schools
Inclusive Schools: We strengthen teachers, school committees, and referral systems to ensure children with disabilities learn in accessible and welcoming classrooms
Voices of Hope Foundation (VOHF) is a community-led organization advancing inclusive education and disability rights in Zanzibar. Our flagship program, Jumuisha Zanzibar (JuZa), ensures children and youth with disabilities learn, thrive, and participate fully in society.
Inclusive Schools: We strengthen teachers, school committees, and referral systems to ensure children with disabilities learn in accessible and welcoming classrooms
Empowering Families: We train and support parents and caregivers to understand disability, champion their children’s rights, and build safe, supportive homes where children can grow and thrive.
Community & Government Action: We mobilize leaders, institutions, and local networks to challenge stigma, strengthen protection systems, and create long-lasting, disability-inclusive policies.
Many still see accessibility as an optional add-on, yet we rely on it every day — from curb cuts and captions to voice-to-text and audiobooks. What starts as an accommodation for some often becomes a convenience for all, strengthening systems and making life easier for everyone. Inclusion is not a favor; it is smart, forward-thinking development."
Empowering women and caregivers strengthens families, builds resilient communities, and lays the foundation for a more inclusive and prosperous Zanzibar.
When a child with a disability is given the opportunity to learn, the whole community begins to see ability instead of limitation. JuZa is not just changing schools — it is changing mindsets across Zanzibar.
True inclusion happens when families, teachers, and Shehia leaders work together. VOHF’s community-owned approach ensures that no child is hidden, and no family walks the journey alone.
